Olympic Girls

The man was just angry.

We didn't know why.  We're just little kittens who showed up at his house.

He wanted us off his property, so he trapped us (which was a lucky thing looking back) and drove us to CFC.  We could hear the staff whispering, "no space," "feral," and  "they're so scared."    We were particularly scared as we had arrived in a wire crate in the back of a pick up truck and had just been hosed down by the trapper hoping it would calm us.

We were NOT calm and were very scared. Very!

And then we heard the magical words, "We'll take them."

We could exhale.  We knew anything would be better.  We had a chance.

Today we find ourselves tucked away in a foster home.    We are still a bit hissy but our new foster mom picks us up with the greatest of ease and tells us we are the best.  She tells us we are beautiful and we will be fine.   We feel safe and secure and are making progress already!!!

We are Misty May and Kerri.

My Person Found Me Today!

I heard some whispering this morning in the vet tech office which I have called home since my arrival in June from a high kill shelter.  I heard my name and then the words, "new family," "pet interview" and then the ever pivotal words "looks very promising,"  as glances came my way.  I started to quiver with anticipation...something I do quite well by the way...and excitement thinking maybe my day had come.  Maybe I would be going home!

Was someone coming for me??   Did someone want me for their pet??

It almost sounded too good to be true.  And then I saw the van pull up.  A petite, pretty lady stepped out of it with an even cuter blonde chihuahua clutched to her chest.   My eyes got as big as saucers and I knew this could be my chance.  A chance at a new life and a new person and another pet to love.

Shall I say it was love at first sight?? Well, just maybe it was.   For my new mom, Alice I think it was but for Fang,  the stunning blonde cutie-patootie...well,  she simply needed reassurance that she could still wear her little tiara around me.    I gave her my best paw forward and before you knew it,  I was heading home.

Home sweet home.

It just sounds good.

Got Diesel?

Got Diesel??  Well,  we sure do!!   With the temps escalating to new heights of sweltering heat,  the power went kaput at the sanctuary on Monday.   But....no worries...as Team Diesel, Volunteer Craig and Animal Caretaker,  Hank were on call!     Ready to feed our thirsty generator a big helping of much needed Diesel to keep the buildings cool and the water pumps functioning,  after much muscle flexing, the generator was fed and the men notched another success of Team Diesel on their belts.   Now ladies,  while the men might be mistaken for Vin Diesel, Vin is actually off site making a movie.  No word on when he will be able to help with the next Diesel Crisis.

Master Balancer of Towels

We do loads and loads of laundry each and every day.  With stacks sometimes spanning floor to ceiling,  why not get creative and carry them around like a huge accordion??    Animal Caretaker Hank,  proudly shows off his upper body strength and balancing stamina as he transferred towels on the CFC campus.   There's no telling if the whole accordion collapsed seconds after this picture was taken!!  You'll have to check in with Hank to see if his "transfer mission" was a success.

Leash Walk Anyone?

"Oh no, please don't go!  Come play with me," begged the dapper Ringo to Glory, the sleek, sexy, tri-colored hound.

"Well, if you insist," smiled Glory to her new best friend, "but you better have a fun plan in mind for me.  You see, I am used to calling the shots and picking my playmates.  There is something about you though that I find intriguing and slightly mysterious.  You have for example, quite a skill in leashing in the pretty ladies.  No pun intended," she smirked back at him.  "Frankly, I'm impressed."

Little did Glory know but back at Ringo's bachelor pad, he already had the mood music piping into his condo,   chilled Palmyra water in a decanter and nayla bones for two smartly positioned bedside.  Ringo was no novice and clearly knew what he was doing!!

Keeping Cool in my Red Jacket

Newt, the newt??  Well, maybe!!  Who would have expected to see cool, wonderful me on the wooded trail loop at CFC?   I, along with other incredible creatures besides the resident cats and dogs, call CFC home.  Did you know we have a thriving community of blue birds and swallows?   We also have teems of deer who leap and bound through the forest enjoying the shady canopied environment.  How about opossum critters who arrive under cloak of darkness to stir up the dogs in the pens as they search for a yummy snack?   And what about the snakes ...skinny green ones, longer black ones and the occasional ones with shakers on their tail tip??   We have it all right here!  CFC is no ordinary animal sanctuary.  It's home to a lot more than just cats and dogs.  Come see for yourself!

All Dressed Up!

I'm all dressed up and looking for somewhere to go!  Do you see my new stylish bandana?  Well, it makes me feel proud, special and confident.   You see, I was recently "returned" to the shelter having been adopted out as a puppy and now,  I am trying to fit back into the sanctuary life and find my niche here.  Folks have been incredibly patient and just shy of awesome.  My name is Emma and some might call me Em.   I am tentative and a bit nervous but I think you'll agree when we meet,  I am super, super sweet and deserve a chance at a new home.   I'm here with Diamond (roommate) and the two of us....she a stunning a blonde and me a two tone head turner...are causing folks to stop and take a peek at our rocking pen.  Come on by and be a part of our"chick tour!"

It Takes Two!

Cissy and Wilma (all black) are seasoned kitties.  Some might say they are senior kitties.  In any event,  they know what they like and what they don't like.  Here you can see them testing the water.   Now, most would say the Palmyra water is really great.   No, terrific!!  These two discerning kitties still feel the need to personally test all water that comes into their room.   They need to make sure it meets their standards.   While we don't know for sure the final outcome, for those of us who share a home with a cat(s),  we know all too well, water in the cat bowl is NEVER as good as water in a human vessel.   And so it goes.  Some things never change!   Note:  Photos from Michelle Baty.

A Conversation Overheard

"So Sheeba, here's the deal,"  Bradley the red tick hound explains to newcomer, Sheeba the shepard mix.  "Page is the one you want to butter up.  She's the one who meets with potential families and matches up everyone into their new home.   Now my tactic was to act really shy when I first arrived. I knew THIS would get her attention.  As a result, Page kept coming over to my pen to say, hi.  I can't tell you how exciting it was to have a regular visitor every day. With time,  I started to warm up and even let her touch me and then walk me."

"Get out," squealed Sheeba with delight.  "You're not shy at all. I mean,  you are like my BEST play buddy and we just met! I can't believe you played that trick on Page."

"And so here's the best part. Page has now elevated me to "boyfriend" status,"  Bradley beams to Sheeba.  "I have also earned "best boyfriend" status with a volunteer, so life is really terrific for me.  Like you, I was pulled from a high kill shelter when my time was up.  Things are awesome here and you will soon figure out how to weasel your way into Page's good graces.  Thank goodness we have folks like Page and Mary (who started CFC) to look out for great pets like us.  Without them,  there would be no US."

A New 'Do for Me!

A new "hair do," that is for me. Folks here at the sanctuary call me Foxy...Foxy Roxy...Hey, you...and so many other names of endearment. Typically I sport a very, very full hair do. My fur is long and luscious and a stunning orange with red highlights. With spring here and some pesky matts in my fur, I chose to go short...and sexy! Folks say I look like a puppy. Now, this is music to my ears considering I'm actually over 10 years old. But I must also admit, I heard a handsome young fellow...yes MUCH, MUCH younger than I, was coming to town and wanted to share my office space with me. Now, I just had to look the roll of the smart office assistant to Toni, our vet tech and ultimately I felt I could benefit from a makeover. I think my plan has gone over really, really well. The new man in my life, Vinnie, had the biggest little grin on his face and his little body did a big hula maneuver when our eyes met. It may not have been love at first sight, but gheez, he sure looks fine and I know I now do as well. Come on by soon and see how the hottest new couple is keeping the office moving and shaking!

I lost my tail for a whole day!!

Now let me explain. You see after patiently residing at CFC for over 5 years and waiting for the interview of my life, it finally happened! Out of the blue, I was called forth for an interview. I politely answered the questions and then the lady vanished. She came back though and quietly pulled me close to let me know, I was the chosen one. Chosen one for what, I asked? Full time pet job I was told. Talk about a stunner. And so off I went. I headed East on Rt 6 and set up shop in my new home. Wow! Somehow between packing my bags at CFC and arriving at my destination, I lost my tail. In hind sight (no pun intended!), it was glued in between my legs. I am slowly settling into my new home which I share with 2 older cats. My tail has emerged and is proudly on display in my featured photo. I can't thank CFC enough for giving me the time I needed to find the perfect poofy place to rest my weary bones. You guys are the best. Note: This leather sofa was already covered with cat scratch marks.

King of the Hill, uh...Tree Stump!

With temps soaring to 70F, Harley could hardly contain himself as he enjoyed the warm sunny winter day at CFC! Clammering over an ancient fallen tree and then making huge laps in the arena, Harley was all smiles and tail wags as he stretched his legs and tested his tree "climbing" skills. Always up for longer walks and outdoor activities, everyone is Harley's best friend. A larger, two tone love bug, volunteers always gravitate towards spending time with this fabulous hound mix. Come on out and see for yourself how perfect Harley could be for you!

Feeding Time and What Everyone's Thinking

"Can't wait to see what Mary and Team have whipped up for lunch today. Salmon on wooden plank," whispered the grey tabby. "No! " "Don't be silly we all know that's on the Thursday menu. Today is the good tuna in the skinny can." " Yep, that's right," pipes in the tuxedo kitty. "Today, it's my turn to lick up all the juice. No one saw the huge fur deposit I made in the cat tree so they are thinking, I have been the perfect resident. I get first dibs. " "You over there! Yes, the new orange kitty in our room. As a rookie, it's your job to tie bibs around our necks so when the cart comes in, we're ready to EAT!" "Whoa!! Here it comes," alerts the buff colored cat with the big belly. "I'm getting it all!" All trot to the door as the cart gently makes its most anticipated appearance of the day. All is well in Room L1.
